If you love crochet hairstyles as much as I do, get ready—because today’s look is all about volume, definition, and effortless beauty. The 18-inch Spanish Curly Crochet Hair from Ywigs is one of my favorite textures so far.

Step 1: Prepping the Base

Before installing the crochet hair, I braid my natural hair straight back with a single braid running across the back. Keep your braids slightly loose—this helps the crochet needle slide through easily during installation.

Step 2: The One Knot Method

If you’ve watched my other crochet installs, you know I love the one-knot method. It’s easy to do and makes taking the hair out later super simple.
Here’s how:

  • Slide the crochet needle under the braid.

  • Hook the crochet hair.

  • Pull it through and tie one single knot.
Repeat this through most of your head, leaving the front section for a different technique.

Step 3: Creating a Natural Hairline Illusion

For the front section, I use the hairline illusion method. I crochet the hair directly at the front, letting one side fall in front of my face while bringing the other side back, then forward again. This creates a seamless, natural hairline that looks like your own—and gives you styling versatility for half-up, half-down looks or a side part.

Step 4: Installing the Middle

In the middle section, I continue with the one-knot method but separate each strand of hair into two. This helps cover the cornrows underneath and gives the hair more volume. At this stage, I’ve used about 2.5 bundles, and the full look takes around 5 bundles for perfect fullness.

Step 5: Curl Definition

It's quite easy to define this hair! I use only water spray and leave-in conditioner since the curls are naturally loose.
For tighter curl patterns, I sometimes add the Soft & Free Curl Activator Lotion or a bit of hair gel from my local beauty supply store.

After trimming, I repeat the curl-defining process to make the curls pop again.

Step 6: Face-Framing and Shaping

To add shape, I trim the hair around my face and cut the curls into a soft round shape for volume. I cut till I'm comfortable with how it frames my face. Don't be afraid to change it!

Step 7: Finishing with Diffusion

To boost volume even more, I diffuse the curls once they’re dry. The result? A big, fluffy, gorgeous style that looks natural and full of life.

Final Thoughts

Honestly, I’m obsessed with this hair. I’ve tried several crochet styles from Ywigs, and the Spanish Curly texture is one of my top picks for how soft, full, and long-lasting it is. Whether you like a natural look or big curls with bounce, this style delivers every time.
