If you’ve been searching for a detailed boho braids tutorial that shows exactly how to achieve a full, waist-length look with a natural curl pattern, you’re in the right place. In this post I’m breaking down my step-by-step process for installing medium-size boho braids using Ywigs Burmese Loose Deep Wave human hair bundles.
I teamed up again with my favorite hair company, Ywigs, to create this look. They sent me three bundles of their double-drawn Burmese Loose Deep Wave hair (18 inches), and I purchased an extra half bundle to complete the style.
Double drawn = thicker from root to tip, so you need fewer bundles than beauty-supply hair.
Bundles are full, affordable, and offered in multiple curl patterns & colors.
Ywigs also provides wholesale options for braiders.
Pro tip: I recommend the 20-inch bundles for even more fullness with fewer pieces added.
Start at the nape: I always section the nape of the neck first. For medium braids, I created three rows here (4, 5, and then 6 braids per row depending on the client’s nape width).
Minimal boho hair at the nape: Because sweat and friction can tangle curls, I added only 4–5 boho pieces per braid in this area—enough to look natural when hair is pulled up.
Pre-part the top: I part ear-to-ear and pre-section 6 rows on each side (12 rows total) before braiding. This keeps everything neat and speeds up installation time.
My client is tall, so I used 54-inch braiding hair and braided the human hair into the ends for extra length without extensions.
Sealing the ends: tie a knot, add a small hidden dab of nail glue, and wrap twice over the knot to prevent white residue.
Because this is a loose wave pattern, braiding the human hair into the ends matches the curl better than trying to perm-rod it afterward.
Here’s a guide for those who like exact numbers (I usually eyeball it):
| Row | Total Pieces per Braid | Breakdown |
|---|---|---|
| 1 (nape) | 6 | 4 down the braid + 2 at ends |
| 2 | 8 | 6 down + 2 at ends |
| 3 | 10 | 8 down + 2 at ends |
| Above ear/crown | ~14 | 2 at root (left & right) + ~10 down + 2 at ends |
Add a boho piece every ½–1 inch down the braid to build fullness. With 3 Ywigs bundles, you can easily achieve this density.
Single drawn: more filler hairs, tapered, needs more bundles.
Double drawn (my go-to): thicker, heavier, fewer fillers, full look with fewer bundles.
Super double drawn: the fullest option, almost no filler hairs, higher price point.
Knowing the difference helps you match the fullness you see in tutorials.
This style took me 7–8 hours (I’m a fast braider—expect ~8 hours for most).
Clients love the loose-textured boho braids because they’re easier to manage and don’t wrap around the braids like deep wave hair does.
We achieved a middle- or side-part “bust down” style with extra length and volume—perfect “Bora Bora” inspired braids. After dipping, the curl pattern loosened slightly, which my client actually preferred for a tamer finish.
